Black History Month / Nike / PHLI

This past Saturday, I was privileged enough to be invited to a Black History Month party held at PHLI.  This event was unreal, from the food (salmon, catfish, hot wings…I always appreciate the free food) to the live entertainment.  I’m not the best with names, but on hand was a poet who took part in HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, although I have never watched this before.  She was a very motivational speaker and she spoke of many truths. read more...

Valentines Day is on Wednesday, which basically means not a lot of time left for gifts. So I come to you with a few ideas. If you know me, then you know those gifts will be shoe related as well as have some tie to Nike.

About etnies

Etnies began in 1986 when a French company, Rautureau Apple, teamed with French skateboarder Alain “Platoon” Montagnet, to launch “Etnics,” a word derived from the word “ethnics,” which was often used in skateboarder subculture slang to describe the small subcultures often formed within the skateboarding community. The company’s goal was to create high-top sneakers intended for European skateboarders and sufers. In 1987 Etnics changed its name to Etnies and released the first pro model skate shoe, the Natas.

Over the next few years Etnies built a solid foundation as a legitimate pro skate shoe company by sponsoring numerous skating events and releasing quality professional skateboarding shoes. In 1988, Etnies released “The Senix,” which was a performance skate shoe offering superior ankle support, heavy-duty eyelets and enhanced grip. With an outsole constructed of the same rubber used for Indy 500 Goodyear tires, the shoes set the standard for durability, lasting four times longer than other outsoles on the market. By 1989, Pierre Andre Senizergues began distributing Etnies in the U.S., and the company became the first skateboarding shoe distribution company owned and directed by a professional skateboarder.

Etnies celebrated it’s 20th anniversary in 2006 and they’re going stronger than ever as one of the worlds top skateboarding shoe companies. Etnies makes shoes for men, women, body, girls, and even toddlers and has expanded into several additional markets. Etnies sponsors many professional action sports athletes in sports such as Skateboarding, Snowboarding, Surfing, BMX, and Moto-X. Some athletes it sponsors are Arto Saari, Ryan Sheckler, Ali Boulala, Ronnie Creager, Eric Jackson, Chris Malloy, Ryan Campbell, Jamie Bestwick and Lee Dainton.

The following current styles are available from Etnies: Ali, Annex, Arto, Arto 2, Arto-Mid, Ashbury, Bernie, Birthstone, Bottle, Callicut, Calli-Slim, Calli-Vulc, Capistrano, Chalotas, Charles, Chula II, Cinch, Commuter, Dublin, Dyna III, Easy-E, El-Jefe II, Faction, Fakie, Fielder III, Fierce, Flats, Flirt, Forsvar, Hope, Ignition, Intercity, Kensington, Kenya, Kingpin, Kona, Lacie, Lo-Cut II Golf, Lo-Cut II, Slim, Lomax, Lo-Slip V, Mima, Myra, Nadi II, Nathalie, Pocahontas, Ranger, Redeem, Roland, Roscoe, Runaway, Shaidy, Sheckler, Shift

I'm Back

I hope everyone had a good break. I’ve returned to classes, nothing too thrilling here. Christmas was good, picked up Fire Red 5’s which were previously mentioned in my blog. To my surprise those sold out relatively quick for a general release.

Also over break, I proposed to my girlfriend of over a year, and now I am engaged. That’s a large part of why it has taken me so long to get back to the blog here. From going to reception halls to meeting with the photographer, it is not easy. I have not decided which shoes I will be wearing during that day, I have received the “ok” to wear something Nike, which will not be a easy decision. read more...

About heelys

Heelys are a brand of sneakers that have one or more wheels embedded in each sole. This allows the wearer to walk, run, or even roll by shifting weight to the heels. Advanced Heelys users can perform tricks such as soft braking, which is the process of lowering the front section of rear foot, gently, to increase friction and slow to a stop. Shoes that roll. Exclusive to Heelys, these powerful, lightweight athletic shoes feature a single wheel housed in the heel, allowing athletes of all skill levels to walk, run and transition to a roll at any moment. Roll into all situations, or simply remove the wheel and transform your Heelies into a pair of fashionable street shoes.

There are lots of different Heelys models including atomic, rebel, bliss, torch, glitz, reflex, vapor, spree, venture, evolution, octane, slide, air, freedom, laser, and bratz. They are available in pink, blue, brown white, red, yellow, black, and more. Heelys are available for adults and kids alike in a variety of sizes for mens, womens, girls, and boys size 1, size 2, size 3, size 4, size 5, size 6, size 7, size 8, size 9, size 10, size 11, size 12, and size 13.

Heelys shoes were invented by Roger Adams, who first learned to roller skate at 9 months old. The first Heelies skates was made when Roger used a hot butter knife to cut out the heels of a pair of Nike running shoes. With rod, some skateboard parts, and a lot of falls, he invented the first Heely prototype and started his company in December 2000. By 2003 the company had sold more than 1.25 million pairs of Heelys. See Heelys skate shoes.

Well finals certainly came out of nowhere this semester. So with that coming up, already knocked German out on Monday.  Talk about a tough test.  Still leaving Marketing, Management and Communications. I certainly have my hands full.  On top of all that, my birthday was last Sunday, the 10th.

With all this going on, still in the back of my mind I have Jordans.  This Saturday the 16th, marks the release of the Fire Red Jordan 5.  One of the most anticipated releases for me.  Original colors, can’t go wrong.

I'm Back

Well I’ve returned from a much needed Thanksgiving break, especially from classes and studying and all that nonsense. Didn’t do too much shoe-wise over break, which is kind of a good thing.

Jordan-wise things are kind of slowing down now until December when that Fire Red 5 comes out. See previous blog for pictures of that shoe. I’m excited that Jordan is giving me a “semi-break” so I can focus on other stuff.

Also with December coming, that means the Jordan 2 inspired Dunk is set to release. Pictured below, I’m pumped for this shoe, simply for the simplicity. I’m a sucker for white soles as well: read more...

Shoe Problems

Like most things today, Shoe collecting has become commercialized. At times, I just want to give it up and walk away. This is a lot easier said than done. It amazes me when I go to a Jordan Release and I see kids in line picking up a shoe of a man they never saw play. Granted I like the interest in Jordan, but I think its for the wrong reasons. They don’t know how hard he played on the defensive end of the court or how he developed through his career. Rather they’ve seen a couple highlight tapes and people around them wearing Jordan’s, so obviously they think its cool. Also with Jordan Brand going way too far with one shoe, how many Retro 5’s are we going to see? Now we have Life Style releases which are supposedly limited. read more...
