Do you ever buy second-hand?

gblued's picture
This is a source of debate in my household. I occasionally (not often!) buy second-hand shoes when I can´t find anything decent for a good price new. My husband insists that buying new is the only way to go and that you can develop foot problems by wearing used shoes. Opinions anyone?

It's true that's it's a

It's true that's it's a risky game to play but I buy secondhand if it's a pair I really want! I have bought quite a few pairs, especially vintage red pumps. Both fell apart while out with friends haha...I walked too much and the little black thing at the end of the heels came off (the sound of the nail on sidewalk was very annoying!) and eventually the bottom sole started flapping and I had to pull em off...so embarrassing!

But if you're going to buy secondhand, definitely make sure it looks barely used and durable!

I don't know about

I don't know about developing foot problems, unless the shoes are worn

on one side, or something. I've gotten some nice shoes second-hand,

and have really loved them. I say,  they're going on YOUR feet, don't worry

about what your husband says. ;)

I have never even heard of

I have never even heard of buying shoes 2nd hand (purses and clothes yes, but not shoes). I feel like it would be weird to know someone you don't know wore them before you. You all seem to have done it and like it though, so who knows? Do you only do it for expensive designer shoes or ones that aren't made anyone? What's the deal?

I've bought several pairs on Ebay and they've been great finds and buys.  I look for brands that I already know about so the size is good for me, and I look for the wear and tear.  The ones I've gotten have barely been worn and you can't even tell that someone wore them more than once.

Just bought a pair of Amy Jo Gladstone velvet mules.  One was absolutely brand new and the other foot was just barely scratched on the bottom.  Seems the woman bought them and wore them while one foot was in a cast.  They didn't fit so she decided to sell them.  I paid $10 for an essentially new pair of $150 shoes.

second hand shoes

I have bought second hand shoes before. And so far I have had no problem with them. I only buy them if they have not been worn much.

I only go with nearly new

I agree with the majority of you here who say that barely used is the way to go. :) I would only wear shoes that don´t look used, although on my feet they will look pretty worn out in a week or so!

Some have never been worn

When I pick up second hand shoes I go for those that haven't been worn. Usually it's a garage sale or an upscale resale shop where ladies with money have purchased on impulse and haven't actually had anything to wear the shoes with.

I have bought some at garage

I have bought some at garage sales and have really not had any problems with them. But of course I buy the ones that don't have a lot of wear and tear. I have seen some that I cannot believe people are actually trying to sell them.

Once as a kid I found a cute pair of fairly new looking black vinyl flats sitting in a bush and I tried them on and they fit...a little tightly but I was so surprised at my luck!

I can't remember if I kept them or followed my parents' advice to put them back...but don't you think that was a sign that they were meant for me to have? haha

I haven't personally.  I

I haven't personally.  I have looked at some on ebay and been tempted.  But I never have.  I think my husband has purchased some hard to find collectors type shoes (don't ask,  he has a weird thing with shoes, and owns over 100 pairs), but I don't think he has worn them.

I have never bought a used

I have never bought a used pair of shoes, and I wouldn't sell shoes that I had worn, simply because I usually bear down on the outer edge of the heel of my shoes. Even after the first wear, I leave my mark. I think that's why I have never purchased a used pair, everybody has their own unique gait, and I always felt that a worn pair would be uncomfortable...S

I just bought a used book for a great price. It was something I've wanted for a long time. But I haven't bought second hand shoes before. It seems some people have had good expreience with it.

I love second hand shpping

I have bought like new shoes on ebay and at goodwill.  I make sure they don't have any wear or indents inside.  Some people just buy them, try them on or maybe wear them once and decide they don't like them.  I love getting bargains.

I only buy new shoes. I am

I only buy new shoes. I am very picky about what kinds of shoes I wear as it is.
