Clarks shoes began in 1825 when Cyrus Clark began tanning sheepskin rugs in the Somerset village of Street, England. His brother, James, introduced sheepskin slippers in 1830 and the business soon began to flourish. In the early 1950s, Nathan Clark introduced the Desert Boot, which was modeled after the simple and comfortable boots his fellow army office found in the bazaars of Cairo. The boots had attitude and quickly gained in popularity around the world. The Desert boot was followed in the 1960s by the Wallabee – a simple moccasin style that has become another Clarks classic.
