Stiletto Girl

Stilettos—not combat trousers and pierced tongues—are a real source of girl power.
--Lesley Thomas, English essayist

There’s something about a pair of sexy stilettos that just make you feel grand. Sliding your foot into them, strutting down the street in them. They make your legs look great, don’t they? Of course, generally when you think of stilettos, you think of the ones that are like five inches tall and only strippers wear. But there’s so much more to stilettos than that.

I was curious as to when they came into fashion so I did a little research on the ‘Net. It was the mid-1950s when they became all the rage. Starting out in Italy and then spreading their sexiness across to the US. I think we all have the image of the TV mom wearing her dress and petticoats and her sexy shoes. I wonder if men back then found them as appealing as they do now? How did Dad feel when Mom handed him a Tom Collins in a highball glass wearing her pearls, dress, and stilettos? You think he wanted to sweep her off her sexy shoes, take her to the bedroom and shag? (Okay, I couldn’t help myself, that was the fiction writer in me coming out…)

Anyway… I have this pair of black faux-suede stiletto slides. I love them. Since I’m 5’7, when I wear these four-inch-heel shoes, I’m very tall. It’s empowering to talk down the office hallway and be able to see over the top of the cubes. They make me feel feminine and sexy, confident and strong. I love the slenderness of the heel – and the ability to balance on them while strut my stuff.

Ten years ago if anyone had said I’d love wearing stilettos, I would have laughed in their face. Now, I find, I can’t live without them.
