Shoe Shopping 101
If the shoe fits, buy it, but only if they have it in your color.
--From the book of Feng Shoe
I had a girlfriend ask me once how I chose a shoe when I went shopping. Do I just buy something outright? Or what? I thought this was an interesting question because I had never really thought about it before.
So I recalled the last time I was in DSW Shoe Warehouse . I love this store, by the way. The first time I walked in there and saw the rows and rows of shoes, I swear I heard the angels singing Hallelujah. I gasped at the sight of all the shoes. At the time I was married and my then-husband was with me. I heard him groan under his breath so he knew he was going to be in there for a while.
But I digress...
It’s like this. I walk up and down the aisles, glancing at all the shoes. I’ll stop and pick one up, look at it. If it doesn’t grab me or speak to me, I put it down and continue on my way. I know it’s going to be the one when it makes me suck my breath in quickly through my nose. I get this sort of shortness of breath and start to feel all tingly all over. Then I know – this is it! This is the one!
I pick up the shoe. I search for my size, then try it on. I stand in front of the mirror and analyze it. How does it feel? Does it pinch? How’s the heel height? And more importantly, how does it look on my foot?
If it passes my rigorous shopping test, then it’s a total shoe-in! ;)
