Shoe Problems

Like most things today, Shoe collecting has become commercialized. At times, I just want to give it up and walk away. This is a lot easier said than done. It amazes me when I go to a Jordan Release and I see kids in line picking up a shoe of a man they never saw play. Granted I like the interest in Jordan, but I think its for the wrong reasons. They don’t know how hard he played on the defensive end of the court or how he developed through his career. Rather they’ve seen a couple highlight tapes and people around them wearing Jordan’s, so obviously they think its cool. Also with Jordan Brand going way too far with one shoe, how many Retro 5’s are we going to see? Now we have Life Style releases which are supposedly limited.

Along with the Jordan has come the Hype of the Dunk. I think everyone I know, they would say there favorite shoe is a Dunk, most likely an SB as well. Some people don’t even realize that the Dunk was a basketball shoe. I think it’s getting out of hand, I remember when a shoe would come out and I would walk into a store and find it. Rather now, I’m seeing samples of shoes that don’t come out for another year. I would like to believe that Evolution is a good thing, but with the way Shoe stuff is evolving I can’t really say it’s a positive.

Also with all the “HYPE” that has surrounded many recent releases, I’ve been able to pick up older shoes cheaper than the new stuff. So to those that have been driving prices up, I thank you. I have been able to pick up less popular shoes, which I like, for a lot cheaper price.

I think younger people who are starting to get into collecting need to look at those who have been doing this for a while now. Listen to what they have to say, not agree with it necessarily, but just see what has come before them.

Now that I have ranted on about stuff that many people find irrelevant, I would just like it to be known that Nike continues to surprise me with designs and new color schemes. I applaud Jordan Brand for bringing some original colors back: Military 4’s, Grape 5’s, Fire Red 3’s. I have toned it back SB wise, and tried to stick to the ones that are must haves. It has been tough but I’m doing better than expected.
