Marlon Austin Bespoke Couture

Edgar Revilla's picture

My name is Edgar Revilla, I’m a Fashion Stylist and I have a love for great luxury shoes. The French have given us Dior, Chanel, and Christian Lacroix. The Italians have flashed us with Prada, Gucci, and Versace. While the English released on to us, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, and of course, Manolo Blahnik. Here in the “Good old U S of A” we have Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, and Stuart Weitzman.

Every season designers come out with their best foot-wear forward. Sometimes they make me long for a small shoe size. While at the other end of my emotional spectrum, I can only look in horror while they crash and burn. Always saying on top of the fashion world is just part of my day to day routine. Seeing what walks down the runway or what shines at the suits during awards season is also fun...

As a stylist here in Tinsel Town; I have seen the power of shoes at work. When shooting with a Celebrity client, the one thing that gives them that extra boost on set are a pair of great shoes! They come to set wearing them. Talk about them like a great lover. All the time waiting to be ask,”So what do you think about them?” I try not to tip my hand, but when it’s a great pair… what can I do. I simply melt over a sexy pair Carmen Marc Valvo patent leather sling backs or give into a powerful pair of Salvatore Ferragamo calfskin boots in front of me.

As this is my first blog for ShoeIQ.com what can you expect of me? Well, I plan on covering the following:

  • Who is new and what you should look out for.

  • What went on during fashion week, when it comes around.

  • Keeping you updated on designers and what they have planned.

  • As if that wasn’t enough, I will also recommend to you what you should wear with what shoe. I have seen good shoes hang around the outfit. Not cute. Not cute at all!

So to end my first blog, I want to cover a new designer I found this week. His name is Marlon Austin. His line is called Marlon Austin Bespoke Couture. I ran into this collection while prepping for a shoot with Coble Smulders & Alyson Hannigan. I know what I was looking for. I pulled two of his shoes, as his collection only has 6 styles, but each one was great. The two I pulled: the Pitone and the Porto are works of true art and the best of the best.

The Pitone:
The Pitone

It has a great dark chocolate supple leather to rest your sole on. The White, Gray, and Black tones on the snake skin are a great visual to the eyes. The stitching on the straps and all around the shoe are beyond flawless. My recommendation to flaunt this find: The Raspberry Crinkle Silk Dress by Zac Posen for a dressy look. You’ll look great with out even trying!

The Porto:
The Porto

Carved from wood, this is not a high school woodshop project. The wood has a soft and smooth feel to it. The hard-wear used to anchor the leather in place has a great silver finish. While the gold chains & prongs hold the amethyst tinted crystals and turquoise in place. The other great aspect about a shoe like this: It will only get better with age. As the leather and wood age and wear the look and feel will be enhanced. Making this an evolving, but timeless item to add to your collect! My recommendation for how to wear this great find: The White denim pants by Taverniti! The gold embroidered back pockets will tie in flawlessly with these shoes. A basic Juicy Couture tank will dress it down. To dress it up, try the Dark Brown Embroidered Bustier Top by Elie Tahari.

Hey Edgar! I found your site

Hey Edgar! I found your site through MySpace shoe lovers group, and I'm so glad I did! I loved reading about these Marlon Austin heels. I can't yet afford handmade high-fashion footwear, but I'm inspired by your tips, even though I might have to apply them to H&M + Payless. When I can afford a stylist, you will be the first guy I call! PS: I love shoes, and I love fashion week, but there's never any coverage of the shoes at fashion week! I hope you'll fill in that gap! PPS: Just discovered how great Stuart Weitzman's line is -- I didn't realize he was a homegrown designer. Even better...
