Black History Month / Nike / PHLI

This past Saturday, I was privileged enough to be invited to a Black History Month party held at PHLI.  This event was unreal, from the food (salmon, catfish, hot wings…I always appreciate the free food) to the live entertainment.  I’m not the best with names, but on hand was a poet who took part in HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, although I have never watched this before.  She was a very motivational speaker and she spoke of many truths.

A Nike rep was on hand to talk about the shoe and the details, as well as what Nike is doing in the Chicago area to build up elementary schools and after school activities for Chicago area youths.

I would like to thank Dave Jeff for having me out and staying so true to everything that is good with sneakers.  Thanks goes out to the whole PHLI crew: Jay, Chris, etc. You guys know what you’re doing.  Jose and Nick, good talking to you guys as well.

As for the shoes, it’s like having a history lesson on your feet.  The details on the outside of the shoe display the details that underground railroad users used to make their quilts and the details they looked at to use strategy in choosing their path.  The insoles have maps of the States in which the Underground Rail Road ran through, as well as the North Star.

Have a good week.
